Black Mountain is a quiet community on the Eastern edge of the City of Kelowna as you make your way Eastbound on Highway 33. It is a short 10-minute drive to the backcountry, a 30-minute drive to Big White Ski Resort, and jus a 15-minute drive to downtown. Black Mountain borders the backcountry to the East, the Rutland neighbourhood to the Northwest, the East Kelowna neighbourhood to the Southwest and the Mission Creek Canyon to the South.

The neighbourhood is made up of the area surrounding Kirschner Mountain on the South side of Highway 33 and the area at the base of Black Knight Mountain on the North side.
